I must admit I was very ignorant on the subject before hand. In fact, I didn't even understand what chemotherapy was. The Holy Spirit impressed it upon me time and time to learn more even years before I got cancer but I always pushed it off and I just never got to researching it until it was too late and I was already diagnosed. I now I listen to the Spirit more now than I used to because of this.

Anyways, if someone asked me to sum up my frustrations with the American cancer industry these would be the basics I would springboard from.

Chemo Kills - check the facts.

Lies and money are paramount in research and treatment in the US

Alternative treatments are out there.

Many tests are unneeded and actually are more harmful to your body than helpful.

Educate yourself

I have been against all of the breast cancer treatment fundraising for years. This doctor give a very quick explanation of things.

Click Chemo doesn't work to watch a quick 5 minute video and don't sign up to walk in any breast cancer fundraisers, but instead give it to a friend battling cancer and send her to a holistic doctor.

I hope that you are having a great week! I love a few online health guys that have been posted here and have space on the right side, but I think I have failed to mention this one: Dr. Josh Axe.

So to get you introduced here is Dr. Axe's website

I also highly suggest his Detox Drink and you can check out his Super Foods ebook too.

I am tapped for money right now which means no supplements, vitamins, speciality foods from Sprouts and Whole Foods, etc. Whenever I can't afford these things I try to do the best I can, which lately hasn't been so good. Our pantry is full of unhealthy carbs: boxes and convenience foods and I have picky eaters too and so it's difficult to keep the house stocked with solely healthy foods. So please pray for me. Smoothies are one of my best fall backs however our garage fridge has been broken for probably two months now and without it fridge space is tight and finding space for all my foods in with the foods for the other seven hungry people in the house is a challenge.

I had been sleeping better for about 2 months just to revert back to my old habits the last couple weeks. I am now taking 3 Coral Legend pills before bed and waking up at around 2 - 3 and going back to sleep at around 5.

Hopefully everything will get figured out soon and I can try to get back to my cancer prevention habits and a better way of life.

Scripture of the day: But Jesus answered him, saying, "It is written, 'Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word of God.'" Luke 4:4

Take care and stay healthy

By the way, I went on Tuesday morning and had a mammogram and ultrasound and well.... I am still cancer free! Of course, the doctor wanted to do an MRI because of calcification but there's less now that before and so I think he's crazy! Maybe in another few years I'll get check out again.
Be blessed
I have been cancer free for over two years now and well, I got tired and lazy and rationalize the situation. Bad move! I have tested my PH for the last few days and it's pathetic! I have decided to work hard to get it back in the green (6.8 and above). I have gone back to making my smoothies which is another thing I have gotten lazy with. My smoothies are great and you find out how I make them here: Creating The Best Smoothies. I'll keep you posted on my levels and let you know how I do over the next few weeks.

So, here are the basics on what I suggest everyone do when it comes to PH Levels. First read a bit about your PH levels and why they are important, here is a quick look at a few: What you need to know about PH and Healing your Body. There are a ton of books out there if you really want to spend the time but after reading The PH Miracle and forgetting the majority but remembering the importance I don't think you need to go to the level of reading all the books and really researching it out, but that's just my two cents.

Now you need to test your PH Level! I suggest getting PH Test Strips and peeing on a bit first thing in the morning to get an accurate number. These are what I use and it should last about a month. It is very easy to see by checking the color of your urine and then comparing that to the scale on the side of the packaging. It should always be above a 6.8 but the higher the better. Now my guess is that the majority of my readers will be below 6.8 and if you are there is hope in getting it where it should be. If you are where you need to be, awesome, keep up the good work!

Now here are a few things to read about what to eat and drink. Alkaline Foods, and Think About Your Water

Karri's Quick Tips:

Cut back on your coffee intake. It's pure acid on the PH scale.

Cut the sugar - instead substitute with Stevia, agave, and maple syrup. Stevia actually helps to raise PH levels and so that's your best bet.

Drink water with lemon all the time. Start the day with it to give your body a jump start. Lemon is the most alkaline fruit on the planet and it will help you raise your PH level.

Cut back on the meats. Meat is great, but in America we have a major problem with portion size and when you at huge steak at dinner your body is gonna be very acidic. So cut down on your portion size and balance out your meal with enough salad and veggies.

Eat your veggies! I was always told that veggies build up your immune system and fruits clean it out, so you want to have a healthy balance of both.

Eat celery with almond butter and bagged fruit as snacks instead of chips and crackers.

Drink Bragg's Apple Cider Vinegar ( they also have flavored vinegar at Sprouts and Wholefoods)

Drink Aloe Vera Juice

Make your own salad dressings. I don't have time to get the recipes but I know there are some yummy low fat avocado based ones out there and the over the counter ones really aren't that great. I used balsamic vinegar a lot.

Cut back on starches too. Your body has to process these and can't work on getting the right PH balance as easily..

Take magnesium. Almost all American's are chronically deficient. Eat avocados, almonds, cashews and spinach to help with your magnesium intake. the Top 10 Magnesium Rich Foods are: Spinach, Chard, Pumpkin, Yogurt, Almonds, Black Beans, Avocado, Figs, Dark Chocolate ( 1 square at a time) and banana. You can also get a lot from salmon, cashews, goat cheese and artichokes.

Okay, that should help you out. Give me a call if you'd like to borrow my books on the subject.

Somebody posted this on FB today and so I came back to add it. It's Scott Hamilton's Testimony and it's pretty cool!

And of course the video of the day, just because I like it: LOVE TODAY!!!!

Some of you may have read the headline and thought “That’s
crazy!" others may have already thanked God and understand completely, while
some of you may be in the midst of suffering and thinking "I just can't
even image". Why would you thank someone for something that is causing or
allowing suffering? Well, because there is a reason for and behind everything and if
you are a Christian then "we know that all things work together for good
to them that love God, to them that are called according to His purpose".
Romans 8:28

Jesus said “In
this world you will have trouble." John 16:33 and the disciples said “We
must go through many hardships to enter the kingdom of God" Acts
14:22. Life isn't always easy and especially if you are suffering with
cancer and pain. But here me out on this... Isaiah told the people to take
suffering as "the bread of adversity and the water of affliction".
Many people that go through cancer, like me, and end up grateful for the things
we learned during our time of “adversity and affliction”. Lance Armstrong even
said that if he had to choose between winning the Tour de France and having
cancer, he'd choose cancer. There are countless stories of people that have
made it through cancer, and yes, even those on their death beds that say they
are grateful for the opportunity of the experience.

If you have cancer
or any kinds of struggle in life for that matter, then you have a choice.
Suffering is inevitable, so the question isn't will we suffer, but how will we
suffer? Thomas Watson a 17th century pastor said that "affliction
works as our preacher and tutor." Humm; he also said that "affliction
is the medicine that God uses to carry off our spiritual diseases". A cool
thought that takes us back to Romans 8:28!

In the Bible Paul
talks about going through trials a lot! He's a pretty amazing guy and I highly
suggest that you read what he has to say. One thing he said was "We also
rejoice in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces
perseverance; perseverance, character; and character, hope. And hope does
not disappoint us." Romans 5:3-5a See, there is a reason for suffering!

Teresa of Avila
said that "When the Lord begins to grant favors here on earth, greater
trails can be expected." I wish I had known that after my cancer. (Believe
it or not, I kind of thought that cancer would be the most difficult thing in
my entire life!) God granted the favor
of healing me, but he had (and has) more trials for me to come. Cancer wasn't
the hardest thing I have ever had to go through and deal with. The most
difficult thing was dealing with spiritual warfare (Satan's attack) through
God's own people the year I was told I was cancer free. Of course, I believe Ephesians 6:12 that “Our struggle is not
against <span style="font-family: 'Century Schoolbook', serif;" value="[a]">flesh
and blood, but against the rulers, against the powers, against the world
forces of this darkness, against the spiritual forces of wickedness in the
heavenly places.” But, man,
oh man, did I feel the heat and pain from the people. I felt as if I
were going to die with the emotional and stressful pain and suffering I had
from the whole ordeal, but I now know it was a refining benefit. My cancer was
between God and myself, but that attack was definitely Satan and my
strengthening in character and hope through the cancer prepared me for the
battle. I
learned so much from that experience that I now call it my “boot camp
experience” as it really strengthened my faith and trust in Him and his word. I definitely care less what man and more about what God says then I
used to. I look back and think how I could have been so stupid? And I am sure
you all have had those hindsight thoughts. Thank God for those looks back and your
growth and maturity, even if it seems slow coming.

My life is pretty darn good right now. I am in the “sweet spot,”
if you will. I have a great family, a great job, a great church, good health,
etc. But I know that it won't always be this easy; trials are headed my way and
yours too. The question is how are we going to handle them? Are you preparing for the battles to come? I
am. And when the battle starts I will “endure hardship like a good soldier.” 2
Timothy 2:3. I know whose army I stand with and who has my back. I am certain
it won't be easy, but I am certain there is a reason for suffering. Suffering
creates a hope that never disappoints.

I have auditorily heard his voice, I have heard Him through others in words on the page and in speech, I've had many signs and then confirmations and of course He speaks through His word and creation. But one of my favorite things is when He speaks with humor.

So, I went to MD Anderson a couple weeks ago to just touch base, and of course the suggested course of action was to get a mammogram and a ultrasound to see if there is any cancer growth. The hospital was to call to schedule an appointment. Well, they didn't and so yesterday I called to set up an appointment. MDA told me to call Methodist hospital, which I did and then I had all kinds of trouble getting through and then even leaving a message. The whole frustrating process was probably 10 minutes and then I never received a call back.

This morning I woke at 3 am, it's 4 now as I write this. Anyways, I am on the computer doing work for the school, checking emails, etc. and I get these things coming through my computer and wow!.... Is God trying to tell me something? Well you decide. Read these articles.

The doctor at MD Anderson didn't feel anything with his hands, but he wants to double check and I think at this point I may wait and just get my second Thermogram and go from there. If the Thermogram doesn't show anything then I think I'll trust that for now. God is good.

That's it for now.
Be Blessed today!
February 9, 2014Here's a quick update and some things I am thankful for.

1. Hannah (16) and Holly (14) were both were chosen to go to Spain with our church to do three weeks worth of ministry work with students attending a English speaking camps. This will be Hannah's third year and Hollys first. They are very excited! They will go this summer and they are working towards saving the $1800 each of the trip. If you would like them to do manual labor or babysitting, please let us know. Also, if you would just like to donate (you can get a tax receipt) please mail a check written to Bridgepoint Bible to our address at 20403 Amberlight Lane Katy, TX 77450 and we'll get it there.

2. Mark is slammed at work, which is good and bad. He has many projects and has been working for the last 3 -4 weekends. It is very common these days that he'll work until 11 p.m -1 am and then come home to sleep 5 hours and then return. I am thankful that he is intelligent, good at what he does and hardworking. I am also thankful that he, along with four other men are getting partnership of the firm soon as the owner is preparing for retirement. This will hopefully help us out financially and that is very needed as Hannah starts college soon, well... she has already started taking classes, but I mean full- time.

3. I am thankful for the mornings. I have been sleeping much better for probably about a month now and I am so grateful to God for the rest I am able to get. I usually go to bed by 11:00 and I am waking at 4:30 - 5:00 usually and getting all kinds of great things in - Prayer and Bible, awesome book reading, some laundry and housekeeping and paperwork, etc.

4. I am super thankful with the way things are going at the school (Coram Deo). We had our first informational meeting last Monday and it went wonderfully, if I do say so myself, considering I was the one giving the presentation. I even had ladies come up afterwards and hug me because they had done the informational meeting circuit and had now finally found where they should be. It is very gratifying to see the blessings of obedience. I used a PowerPoint for the first time and ditched all the paperwork and so that was much better. I came home and went straight to work making the PP better the next time around; as there is always room for improvement. Oh, I have to tell you just about another miracle. We chose our English curriculum for middle school last Friday, then on Saturday I received a call from a woman at another private school that wanted to know if we wanted that same exact curriculum! It was brand new, in the plastic and everything and she even delivered it (over 80 books) on Monday morning. God constantly is showing His provision, direction and confirmation and I am so grateful!

4. I am super grateful for the men and women of God that pour out their hearts and souls through intelligent and Spirit -filled actions of obedience. I am reaping the benefits of this at our church, with friends, in books that I am reading, great videos posted on the web, etc. This world may be Satan's playground, but there are beautiful people and things everywhere if you are looking in the right places. I feel as though I have pulled back the curtain of God's glory a bit and daily seeing His works brighter than I ever have before. I am super blessed!

5. I am grateful for my children. I am grateful that they have had (and are having) good childhoods of support, consistency, love and blessings. Mark and I were talking yesterday about how and where we were as teenagers in our broken and dysfunctional childhoods and well let's just say we were in totally different places. Our girls have good hearts and intentions and are on the right path. I do not take credit for this at all, but instead give God so much thanks for His blessings in this area. I do not have to worry about my girls dressing inappropriately, being boy crazy, being spoiled bratty self- entitled kids that would do stupid things like sneak out, drink, smoke, hurting others for popularity, etc. Doing "typical" teenage is below them and they know that they are daughters of the King and well, they just aren't interested. I am not saying they will never get into trouble; but they truly know who they are in life and at their age I was still trying to figure that out and doing some pretty stupid things.

6. I am grateful for my health, my doctor, the great information out there, the supplements I take, my Vitamix, etc. I am so grateful to Beth for giving me the huge financial blessing and direction years ago that sent me down the right track with my cancer decisions. I am able to live a worry free life now in regards to life and death as I have made peace with God on my expiration date; meaning that whatever He decides, I am okay with it. If I found out I have cancer again, I would be sad and disappointed, but I would be okay and do my best to beat it, but I wouldn't freak out and worry because I know God has my best in mind. That gives me so much comfort and peace.

Okay, so that's it for today. Please try to think of your blessings and be thankful today. here's a song for you.
It's from 1924 and this part talks about the conformity to the will of God. I love it and I thought you would too. Note: I am a terrible typist; in fact I am so bad, that I must look at the keys. So my typing this out with be time consuming no doubt. I feel it will be well worth it though if even one person is to read this slowly and really take it in.

Father John Taurlerus relates of himself that after having for many years prayed for the Lord to send someone to instruct him in the true spiritual life, he one day heard a voice saying to him to, " Go to the church and you will find what you are looking for."
On reaching the church, he finds at the gate a beggar, barefooted and with scarcely a rag on his back. he salutes him: "Good day, my friend." The poor man replies, " Sir, I do not remember ever have had a bad day." The father rejoins, 'God grant you a happy life." to which he answers, "But I have never been unhappy." And then he goes on to say , "Listen, my father; it is not without reason that I have told you that I have never had a bad day; because when I suffer hunger, I praise God; when it snows or rains I bless him; if I am treated with contempt, or repulsed by any, or if I experience misfortunes of any kind, I always give glory to my God for it. I said , besides, that I have never been unhappy, and this is also true; because it is my habit to desire, without reservation, all that God desires; therefore, in all that happens to me, whether it be pleasant or painful, I receive it from His hands with joy, as being what is best for me; and herein lies my happiness. "And if it should ever happen," says Taurlerus, ' That God willed you to be damned, what would you say then?" " If God were to will this," replied the beggar, I would, with all humility and love, lock myself so fast in my Lord's embrace, and hold Him so tight, that if it were to be His will to cast me down to hell, he would be obliged to come along with me; and thus, with Him, it would then be sweeter to me to be in hell than to possess without Him all the enjoyments of Heaven."
"Where was it that you found God?" said the father. "I found Him where I took leave of the creatures," was the reply. " Who are you?" the poor man answered, "I am a king." "And where is your kingdom?" It is within my soul, where I keep everything in due order; the passions are subjected to the reason to God." In conclusion Taurlerus asked him what it was that led him to so high a degree of perfection? " It has been silence." said he, observing silence with man, in order to hold converse with God; and also the union which I have maintained with my Lord, in whom I have found, and still do find, all my peace." Such in short, had this poor man become through his union with the divine will ; and certainly he was, in all his poverty, more wealthy than all the monarchs of the earth, and in his sufferings more happy than the men of the world with their earthly pleasures.

I went to the Cenacle Retreat House in Houston with 17 other ladies from our church, Friday at 6:30 pm - Sunday at 4:30 pm and during that time I had about 40 hours of quiet time, and it was incredible! It was by far my favorite retreat ever! If you know me, you know that I enjoy talking, but what you may not know about me is that as equally, I enjoy my silence and solitude. I so wish I had a retreat like this when I was going through my cancer, just to help me think and process a bit better. If you have just found out that you have cancer or perhaps you are just dealing with it, I highly suggest this place as a retreat. Of course, anyone can attend and I am hoping that our church may start to consider having this retreat two times a year instead of just the one. In fact I joked about a frequent stay card that after buying 4 stays you get your 5th for free or something to that effect. I would so sign up for that!
It's right in the Memorial area of Houston, right off Kirkwood and it's tucked away in a bunch of trees, mostly pines that seem to block out the majority of noise except for some light traffic. It's close to Terry Hershey Park with it's walking trails and the bayou. It is so peaceful and the nature is gorgeous, even during the yucky Houston winter. Sunday was the best with the temp at around 70 and clear blue skies.

When we got there we got our room assignments. I was in #8 which was in the back of our building and perfect. The rooms are sparse, filled with only the necessities of a bed, side table, desk, and a chair with a homemade quilt wrapped over the back. There is also a small cut out for a closet and a sink. No coffee pots, blow dryers, TV's, alarm clocks or perks that you might find in a traditional retreat. In fact the bathrooms and showers were shared by all and totally fine.

After getting settled in, we attended a short meeting where we got quickly acquainted with one of the seven sweet nuns that live and run the house, Mary. We went around and each woman stated their name and why they were attending, which was nice, but way too fast as I hardly knew any of them. We learned about the places we could visit and even a few rules on what to do, like avoid eye contact so you aren't tempted to talk and if you seeing someone crying leave them alone because God can handle it.

After our introductory meeting we were released and we could do whatever we wanted. The big thing we had to pay attention to was a bell that rang to tell us to come to the meals being served cafeteria style in the dining room. Breakfast was at 8:30 and so I had over 12 hours to have complete freedom! I quickly ran to a reading room, one of many and got familiarized with some amazing books. I sat for almost 3 hours there and then I went back to the main house where I hunkered down on the living room couch, read some more and then went to bed around 11.

Each day I spent most of my time reading. I probably got in about 14 - 16 hours of reading in. It was awesome! In fact I read so much my eyes hurt and so on Saturday I took two mini naps of about 30 minutes each. I wrote and thought and prayed and well just enjoyed the silence. There are beautiful peacocks and peahens that live there and the cock made all these noises as if to be meowing for help which was interesting. It's the beginning of mating season. You could hear the wind chimes gently touched by the light breeze, birds chirping contently and even the wind made its voice heard in the stillness of it all.. Have I already said how awesome it was?

There are hammocks, swings and chairs everywhere. Walking trails lead through woods, past creeks and I walked leisurely on small hills and subtle curves, which is quite fun in the Houston flatlands, where even the slightest hill is exciting. Sunday, I enjoyed a hammock for over an hour and even got a bit of sun stuck on my cheeks which I am enjoying, especially considering that tomorrow the weather has predicted, believe it or not - snow!

On Sunday afternoon we were could eat lunch together (instead of two people at a eight-top table) and talk, which everyone was excited to do. I enjoyed the visiting with the ladies, but quite honestly I could have stayed in the silence longer, which was an earlier prediction that I publicly mentioned in our first meeting when the question was asked "Do you have any fears about this weekend?" I said that I might not want to leave. I was the last one there as I left at around 4:30 after finding a passage in a book and getting one of the nuns to make a copy for me. It's incredible and if you ask for it, I'll give you a copy.

I came back home around 5:30 after grabbing Smashburger on the way back. Mark basically said Hi and Bye and was off to work where he stayed till 11:30 or so. I was thrilled to see my kids and all was great until I was quickly reminded how much noise they make. I had a beer and went to bed after Downton Abbey and then falling asleep during Sherlock.

What a great life I have! I am so blessed and very Thankful!

Side note:
I have an appointment at MD Anderson on Thursday at 2:00. I'll let you know how it goes.

Have a great day!
Love,

1. Hope and I are going tonight to Kemah and Galveston to celebrate her 13th birthday which is on Saturday.

2. Hayden's 7th birthday is on Sunday. No major plans just church a special meal out and a trip to the toy store.

3. Our 18th anniversary is on Monday! I have no idea where we will go but most likely just a nice dinner. So obviously its a busy and fun time for us.

4. Holly gets to go and spend the night aboard a submarine in Galveston on Saturday with Civil Air Patrol and so she's excited about that. Her birthday is next month and so she is potting it all out as she is our big planner.

5. I just got a haircut for the first time in about a year and a half so even though most people may not notice the change I sure do and each day my hair continues to grow out from my hairless chemo days I get excited!

6. I am going to have another surgery soon and I will have 6 weeks that I can't lift anything over a pound and so scheduling it is a bit tricky.

7. I've been very busy with the school (Coram Deo Prep - www.coramdeokaty.org) and we have an informational meeting Feb 3rd and so I'm getting ready for that and now that its January we are getting a lot of emails and phone calls about next year and so I am super excited!

8. I'm going on a silent retreat next weekend and I'm super excited about that. I am planning what books I'll be taking and such.

9. All the kids are doing well and they are excited that we get Monday off for the holiday!

Take care
I was going through old emails that I sent out to friends and family when I found out my histology report and I thought I'd send it out to you. Unfortunately the pictures won't go through but I am sure you could Google it to find some. I am so blessed to be healed by God and currently cancer free now. So please remember that now matter what your report or situation with cancer, there is always hope.

12/ 20/ 11

I got an 8 which means it’s very aggressive – the highest
you can get is a 9. I'm a grade 3 which is pretty bad.

What is a
Histologic Grade System?

Histology is the study of tissues, including cellular structure and
function. Pathologists (physicians who conduct laboratory studies of tissues
and cells) often assign a histologic grade to a patient’s cancerous breast
tumor to identify the type of tumor present and help determine the patient’s
prognosis (projected outcome).
The Scarff-Bloom-Richardson system is the most
common type of cancer grade system used today. To determine a tumor’s
histologic grade, pathologists examine the breast cancer cells and their
patterns under a microscope. A sample of breast cells may be taken from a breast biopsy,
lumpectomy or mastectomy.
Pathologists closely observe three features when determining a cancer’s
grade: the frequency of cell mitosis (rate of cell division), tubule formation
(percentage of cancer composed of tubular structures), and nuclear pleomorphism
(change in cell size and uniformity). Each of these features is assigned a
score ranging from 1 to 3 (1 indicating slower cell growth and 3 indicating
faster cell growth). The scores of each of the cells’ features are then added
together for a final sum that will range between 3 to 9.
Pathologists also look for necrosis (areas of degenerating cancer cells)
when determining a tumor’s grade. Cancers with a high grade, necrosis,
cancers close to the surrounding margin of breast tissue of a lumpectomy sample, or large areas of DCIS
are more likely to recur after breast cancer treatment than other breast
cancers.(1) KarriFiegleinhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11442187161691018020noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6859656470071727599.post-4324110636465391562014-01-01T14:36:00.003-06:002014-01-27T18:10:54.269-06:00Happy New Year! January 1, 2014Wow! I can't believe it's 2014! Born in 1971 and living the majority of my life before 2000 it always seems so futuristic to even write out 2000 or anything after that. I'm not a fan of the majority of societal changes since well the 40's or 50's and so I've always wished I was born earlier, but oh well. Ya, I saw Miley Cyrus on the New York ball drop and I thought... Really? Even after all her MTV fiasco and bad attention we have forgotten all of that that and still idolize her today and act as though we condone her ridiculous behavior? They asked her what she thought of 2013 and she said it was "her best year ever" and "she can't wait for 2014!". Ah.... I can wait to see what she'll do. Okay, so I am quite opinionated when it comes to this kind of thing. I'll move on.
We have been sick in the house for two weeks now. It has been awful and I am ready to have a deep breath without pain, wheezing and coughing. I've had bronchitis with a cold and the rest of the family had a cold. When you have three little boys colds are just plain gross with them wiping snot on their clothes and coughing in the open air and such. Heck, even my big girls left Kleenex (used) and tea cups all over the place and well it's been difficult keeping the house up to my standard of clean. Happily, I think yesterday we all started to turn a corner and we are starting to see a light at the end of the tunnel.

Last night was pretty uneventful for us as we usually have friends over for New Year's Eve. One of the reasons we bought a larger home was to do so and we missed not being able have our fun because of our "house of illness." We kinda celebrated. We had yummy ribeye steak dinner and shot off fireworks in the front of the street at the Aggie game halftime, just in case the boys didn't make it until 12, which they did.
Hannah and Holly went to a high school church party and so I hate not having the whole family together, but I am glad they had fun. Of course we are very glad that the A&M game was good - well at least the second quarter was. Mark, Hope and I watched it while the boys watched a movie upstairs.

So, this years resolution is to put Christ first in my life. Obviously, this one is harder than it sounds, especially because it includes my daily suicide. The murder of my own selfishness and earthly desires. I have been reading two good books to prepare me a bit. Mark Buchanan's Things Unseen and John Piper's Don't waste your Life.

Today we cleaned the house and organized for about 4 hours and started the year off right. We even caught a opossum up in our attic! We set the animal trap again to see if any relatives are up there as well. Of course in a house 4800 sq ft with 8 people there is always more to do and clean, but at least we are on the right track. Mark and I also need to complete putting the hardwoods in our bedroom down which hopefully we will get to later today. We also may go see the movie frozen, although I'll have to take some cough medicine as I continue to cough.

School starts for us next Wednesday. I have had to cancel a work day because of being sick and there is much to do on the website and with curriculum planning and such, but I am excited as we have had a lot of emails and calls and hit on our website since putting an advertisement in a area newspaper. Please pray for our school and the upcoming year as we have much to do. We changed the name to Coram Deo and our website is www.CoramDeokaty.com if you want to check it out. Of course, we have much to do as we are making it K-12 but there is a lot there and many great resources for those not even planning on attending.

Okay so now you have quickly caught up with us and our latest.

I hope that all my readers are doing well and that this website benefits you and yours.

Blessings
On the 4th her mom and I emailed back and forth and she told me Abby was too weak to get up but that she was ready to see her Lord and Savior. My post before the last one talked about her and had a video and asked everyone to pray. Here is the last message for everyone from her.
I'm so thankful that Abby is with Him now and that someday I'll get to meet up with her in Heaven.

I think one thing to point out is that these ladies said cancer took over their thoughts and consumed them for worry and fear. I think that beating cancer starts with your heart and mind above all else. You have to take each thought captive and focus on the positive and what matters most in life. Christ doesn't want us to live in fear and worry, but to trust in Him faithfully at all times in all circumstances; even when diagnosed with a life threatening illness and possible early death. Yes, this is definitely easier said and done, however if you work on something and focus your attention to having a positive outlook you can do it!

Life is struggle - no matter who you are and what is going on in life. We all have peaks and valleys. If you have cancer right now and are in a valley, you'll have to depend on God and your own positive attitude to get back up to that mountain top again. It's hard work, it takes energy and strength, but please, oh please don't let people (especially doctors) tell you that you are a statistic and that things are so bad that you need to worry. That is a lie from Satan and you need not worry!

Suggestions for surviving the diagnosis and depressive thoughts cancer can bring:

Realize you are not a victim. Just because you have cancer, it doesn't make you some poor and pathetic person unless you want it to. No one can make you feel inferior without your consent. Eleanor Roosevelt. Change it to - Cancer can not make you feel inferior without your consent.

Focus on things you can be grateful for each day. Write a blessings journal and review it when you are feeling low.

Enjoy the world the best you can. Depending on your health - get outside, go on a walk, ride in the car with the windows down, feel the sun on your face, etc. Stand on the earth barefooted. Pay special attention the wind, birds, trees, etc. and see the beauty in God's creation.

Smile. This is one of the quickest ways to turn yourself around. Let your smile change the world (your world), don't let the world (your circumstances) change your smile.

Have alone time to meditate and pray. This can be difficult, but it is a must when you have cancer. You have to think, process, plan and just relax.

Convince yourself. Talk positively to yourself, telling yourself that you are strong, capable and going to survive and if not that you'll make the best of things while you are here. Write positive words and scripture on index cards and put them up throughout your home to remind yourself of the positive things and say them aloud. Proverbs 18:21 says the tongue has the power of life and death. Romans 12:2 says do not be conformed by this world but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you may prove what is the will of God is, that which is good and acceptable and perfect.

Take care of yourself. Carve out time for little extras in life. Enjoy pedicures, romance movies, great Mexican food, a hot bubble bath, etc. Do whatever floats your boat and enjoy it thoroughly.

Rest enough each day. You can't do anything well when you are tired. Here are my tips for getting good sleep. Sleep it's so important.

Eat healthy foods and drink your water. Do things that are good for your body like drinking healthy smoothies and getting enough water.

Spend time with loved ones. Be only around people that make you happy and encourage you. Stay around from those people that bring you down or doubt you and your capabilities. These are toxic people and you need loved ones that believe in you, encourage you and care for you.

Try something new. Try new foods, acupuncture, yoga, visit a new place, etc. This helps get you out of the day to day monotony that can often happen when you are constantly going to doctors, taking medicines, doing treatments, etc.

Laugh. Laughter is great medicine. Watch a funny movie, tell stories that remind you of funny events, tell or hear a joke. Laughter is a gift from God and it can change everything including the chemicals in your brain. Proverbs 17:22 says I have a merry heart and it is medicine to my life. Check this out. Here's a funny little clip and there are are more at my pinterest page.

Have Fun. Ecclesiastes 8:15 says I recommend having fun, because there is nothing better for people in this world to eat, drink and enjoy life. That way they will experience some happiness along with all the hard work God gives them under the sun.

No need for pity parties. When I was going to shave my hair because it was falling out and it was painful I determined to not have a pity party. I wrote this the day of and even joked about it. It was mind over matter. During cancer I determined how I was going to act (and not react) to the circumstances of life and that is always powerful. I took control in letting my hubby do it and letting the kids run around. I refused to be upset about it, it was what it was and so we even videoed it. That was only part but you see laughing and some frustration with the kids and all but it was very real. A bit of anxiety because of the pain but for the most part it wasn't a big deal because I chose not to make it one.

Remember you are not alone. You aren't the first and your won't be the last with this diagnosis. In fact the numbers are crazy, a huge majority of people will get cancer in their lifetimes. This is good for you though since you have others that have been there and done that. People like myself want to reach out and help those going through it. There are amazing stories out there of perseverance, hope and strength and resources galore. Tap into your area support groups and talk to others that have made it to the other side and are cancer free now.

Be smart. Read the reports and medical information out there to educate yourself. You have a brain - use it. Many people trust every bit of information fed to them blindly - please don't be that person. I was so scared and fearful in the beginning that I didn't stop to think and learn about the options out there. I did things I wish I hadn't and I didn't spend enough time researching before making those early decisions. Read, learn and pray before making major life decisions. Always consider a second opinion because I promise there are always conflicting beliefs. Always pray before any big decision and listen for the answer, don't just tell God what you are doing.

Listen to good uplifting music. You really need to be concentrating on good things and music and songs can change the way you feel and perceive. Check out my pinterest music. I listen to it while I am working on other things or just in my quiet time. Awesome Christian Music and Awesome Eclectic Music

Look at this as an Opportunity. Determine to get the most you can out of cancer and do the best in the circumstance. Don't waste your cancer is a great book to read.

Get in the Word. Read the Bible. Hebrews 4:12 says "the Word of God is living and powerful." and it is so true, it is full of truth and God's promises and wisdom. Everything you need is found here. I suggest good commentary and/or application Bible in American Standard English.

Read the following books to become heavenly minded: Pilgrims Progress in Modern English, Hinds Feet on High places and Things Unseen: Living in the Light Forever

Help others. When you are helping others it takes the focus off of you. It could be praying for them, writing a letter, words of encouragement, a gift of thanks, etc., anything to realize that everything isn't all about you and your needs and wants. Helping others always makes you feel better and reminds you that you are here for a purpose and can do the will of the Lord.

Thank God. Yes, thank Him for your cancer. God allowed cancer to come to you. Everything has a reason and purpose and this is no exception. We are here to glorify the Lord - that's it that is your purpose in life and so do what you can to fulfill your purpose. One way to do that is to come to terms with this and realize it can be a blessing. Ephesians 6 :10 says Finally, be strong in the Lord and in the strength of His might. Believe and do this! Psalms 34:1 says I will bless The Lord at all times; His praises shall be continually on my mouth.

Accept the help and blessings that God is and will continue to send you on your cancer journey. They are there I promise - you just have to be aware and accept them. People, simple moments, little things each day that make it special.

I must admit I was a bit nervous about having my
first thermogram done yesterday. Not scared so much of cancer, but what it
would mean in my life. To quote Roosevelt “The only thing to fear is fear itself.”
That’s the part I don't like - the fear of worry and stress in my life. If ever
cancer comes back, I know without a doubt that I can handle it through Christ
who gives me strength – absolutely no doubt. However there is still the, Oh. What will I have to do? And how will my
life change again? thoughts that run through my mind.
For the most part, I really
like my life! I have a great hubby and amazing kids (that, yes drive me nuts
sometimes); I have a great job and friends and well other than needing to lose
weight I feel like I am in pretty good health (for the most part). I like my
day to day life, although some days are good and some are not so good. I truly am
happy and thankful to God for allowing me the freedom to make the choices I
have and realizing the blessings they have been. The opportunities (good and
bad) that I have had, continually make me who I am and teach me to be a better
person every day, even when they seem so small and insignificant. Cancer helped me become comfortable with the
idea of my dying and trusting God no matter what. For that I will be eternally
grateful. However just like everyone with a good life, I'd like to keep mine
for as long as I can.

So, I went to Dr. Dawn Ewing in Spring, Texas and
I was met at the door by a young man, working on his Japanese who asked if I
was there for a thermography test. He left
me in the waiting room and within a minute or two a woman in her seventies came
in and asked me to come back. I found out later that these people were Dr. Dawn’s
son and mother. I can't remember the mothers name but she quickly went over
things as I already had much knowledge of the subject and then I took off my
shirt and bra and sat on a small spinning stool. I filled out paperwork while my body cooled
to the room temperature and then within about 15 minutes or so I had all the
pictures taken; twelve in all. I enjoyed
visiting with this sweet woman that asked me questions about my previous health
issues and such and told me of her own life as well. When the pictures were
done, I got to look over them with her and they looked great! You really don’t
want any white or red on your breasts as those are hot spots and are signs of
infection (cancer). Thermography picks up things as early as six years earlier
than that of a mammogram as the amount of cancer cells has to be high enough. I
was actually shocked that I couldn't even see the tiniest little white spot. Now
a radiologist has to look them over and so I can't say definitely, but by next
week I should have confirmation. I was so happy leaving the office and I immediately
Thanked God and then called Mark who said he had been praying. I will plan to go back in 4 months for another
thermogram to give us a complete baseline and then I'll do the testing every
year from there on out.

Now the cost of this was only $150 which I think is
a great deal. I avoided radiation and pain from a mammogram and found out the
results quickly. I highly suggest that you do this and stay away from
mammograms.

Hey there! I hope you, my readers are doing well and feeling
blessed.

So, I am going to
get a thermogram on Thursday at Dr. Dawn's - http://drdawn.net/about/about-dr-ewing/

If you don't know
what a thermogram check this out: http://drdawn.net/services/thermography/

The plan is to
have my upper body scanned which will cover the top of my head to my belly button.
I am excited to finally be getting this done, but also a bit nervous as it has
been 16 months since my okay I am cancer free report. It's really been way too
long as it was supposed to be checked every 6 months; so much for prioritizing,
right? Thermography doesn’t cover bone or brain and so I'll most likely
head up to MD Anderson eventually to get a MRI, PET and /or CAT scan. I am
really trying to limit my exposure and so that will have to be a prayerful decision

The fact is that my cancer was a highly aggressive type cancer and
if we were looking at stats there would be a pretty high probability that it has
grown; but thank goodness that’s not what we are concerned about at all in this
case. Stats don’t scare me a bit, much to the chagrin of the oncologist. I know
that God has healed me for now and that I could live to be a hundred or He
could allow it to come back, but either way I am different - not just a number to be worried.

off of Craigslist. I stuck it into the corner of the dining room where it can
be seen and used by many on a regular basis. I did a 30 minute interval last
night and am so happy to be skipping doctor Mark’s advice here and exercising
for the first time in 4 years! Dr. Mark has told me that my body needed to heal
completely before exercising, but I actually think that’s hogwash as I have
really researched this and I think in this one case, he is wrong. So I am
excited and hope to do 30 minutes to 1 hour a day.

All those
spices and herbs in your spice rack can do more than add a little extra kick to
your meals — they can rev up your metabolism and improve your health at the
same time. Many spices are considered superfoods because they are full of
antioxidants! Consider adding two to three spices to all your meals to make
them not only taste great, but also help detoxify your body at the same time. Here's a list of some of the herbs and spices
that will give a healthy (and flavorful) boost to your foods.

Cumin primes the salivary glands and improves digestion.

Curry

Turmeric has been shown in several studies to have
anti-inflammatory properties — and could help protect against degenerative
diseases like Alzheimer's and heart disease.

Vanilla is not only a sweet flavoring but also a stellar

I want you to check out the resources on the right side as I think this has some great and valuable information. I will continue to add to this awesome list.

One thing I have found very helpful in my life is Pinterest. Even way back in 1989 I was ripping articles out of magazines and taking them home and putting them in a binder. This grew to about 12 binders that were organized by everything from marriage and child raising articles to recipes and vacation ideas. About two years ago I found Pinterest which is my system new and improved.
You create boards and title them whatever you want and then you pin information pertaining to your board there from the web or from others pinterest pages. This is very helpful in organizing. I use my Pinterest information constantly. My favorite and most used is my music boards in which I am currently listening to as I type. This is what I am listening to right now - http://www.pinterest.com/pin/2533343512991544/ I usually have one Pinterest page up on a sperate tab and whatever else I am doing and that way I can just click back over on my music videos and listen to whatever songs I have posted.

Anyways, I have some boards there (www.Pinterest.com) with information for overall health and cancer prevention, diet, exercise, etc. and I am constantly finding blogs, websites and helpful information that I am posting to these boards. I suggest that you join Pinterest if you haven't already and that you follow my boards to get updated on what I am posting and that way I can easily share the research and ideas I find.

New song - http://www.pinterest.com/pin/2533343512775352/

I am kinda weird in the way I use Pinterest in that I follow nobody, yes not even my own children as I just want to get my own information usually from my own searches on the web instead of from other people. Hannah (16) can't understand how I have 935 followers for what she and her sisters say is boring stuff (generational gap). They love getting new followers and so if you want you can check out Hannah page too that would be great. http://www.pinterest.com/hannahfigs

Here's the board I think my blog followers will like the most.
http://www.pinterest.com/karri_fieglein/healthy-living-and-cancer-prevention/

New song - http://www.pinterest.com/pin/2533343512747374/

I hope this helps y'all out a bit
Blessings,
Karri

P.S. Please pray for our board meeting tonight as there's much to be decided as we prepare for next year with our growing school. (www.CovenantPrepKaty.org)

I did the foot bath and cold laser light therapy there too. Doctor Mark thinks that I'll be better within a month or so if I can stick to taking my supplements and eating right of course.

I am very excited to say I am so happy to have figured out essential oils after this whole time. Duh! After all this research and reading and doing everything I could to heal myself from cancer, psoriasis, insomnia and more I finally went back to basics. I have been blown away in just a few days with my new YL kit.! Just my level of relaxation and my ability to fall asleep and stay sleep has improved so much just with Young Living's Thieves at the bottom of my feet at night and lavender on my pillow. I had tried the lavender before with an essential oil that wasn't pure and didn't work so I wasn't impressed, but alas I figured out not all oils are so great. I'd like to sell the oils which I am now using, but I haven't gotten to that point quite yet as I need about another week or two to set things up. I am like most people that sign up to be distributors, in that I don't want to make money as much as get the products and so hopefully that will work out.

I have three doctor appointments this week which makes life a bit crazy as leaving the kids when they have schoolwork to do isn't the best. I wish I had a woman to live in and help throughout the day with everything.from childcare and cooking and cleaning to reading to the boys and helping with schoolwork. I often feel so pulled. I know you moms with a medium family understand. I will go to the neurologist the sleep specialist and the orthodontist and hopefully I'll be able to figure a few things out.

Our elementary program GIFT (God - centered Instruction by Families Together) starts this morning. I am so happy to be able to directed this program which I created for another year. What a blessing! Our Latin starts up as well today as well and we are finally getting to the point where the kids will be in all of their classes which have started at different weeks and places. I look forward to having some consistency in homeschooling. Holly still doesn't even have her Math curriculum which costs almost $300!, but eventually we'll get there. I am working on my patience in life which always seems to be an issue for me.
It's so Important - Part 3 - August 27, 2013If you missed Part 2, here are the sleep tips I gave then along with many new ones. Print this up and make a checklist for a better nights sleep tonight and every night.

Start your day right. Most experts suggest that exercise should be a part of your morning routine and that at least 30 minutes of cardio activity should help with sleep later. I want to get a treadmill so I can do that more easily. Don't exercise within three hours of bedtime.

Eat early. Eat your dinner four hours before you go to bed and eat a modest healthy meal. I have noticed that when I eat beef which I limit because of cancer that I don't sleep as well.

Shut out the light at night. This has been a big one for me. We still don't have blackout curtains and we have lived here for 5 years! Anyways, turn out all of the lights, shut the curtains (use blackout curtains if you can), and turn the alarm clock and radio lights around or cover them up. Watching the time is a bad habit to get in because you want to sleep but you keep thinking about the time and how you are still up.

Get a message from your spouse. You can use oils and hands or get a small handheld massager from a store like the Sharper Image or Brookstone. I hardly ever have Mark do this now but during rough patches of little sleep I'll ask for a 5 minute massage for relaxation.

Take a warm bath. Adding soothing bath smells like lavender are helpful. Epsom salt has magnesium which relaxes the body and helps. I suggest organic products.Check out Whole Foods.

Have a routine. Schedule a relaxing and peaceful bedtime routine. Concentrate on the things that make you restful and try to do them consistently. I take my holistic sleep meds, put lavender on my temples, hit my CD player with thunderstorms, read a book, and turn out the light. I lay awake for a while and pray until I fall asleep.

Listen to nature One thing that helped me a bunch was getting the TV out of the bedroom and putting in rain music with thunderstorms instead. Each night we turn it on and it helps so much. Music, even classical wasn't good for me. I would even think about the composers and what I knew of their lives and how they were thinking when they composed the piece and it would just be a mess because my thoughts were everywhere! Nature is calming and peaceful. You can buy a sound machine where you can pick rainfall, the beach, the tropics and more.

Go to bed on time. Ninety - 95% of your 60 - 100 trillion cells are replaced each year and much of that is done during your sleep. So as I said in Part 1 renewing is huge when it comes to sleep, you are even renewing your cells! You gotta get in bed and head off to sleep by 10 or 11 at the latest to get ample sleep especially if you have to get up early. 9pm is when sleep specialist sya is the best time to get your shuteye started.

Don't watch TV or get on the computer before bed; stay away from scary and violent things and the news which can cause fear and stress. The light from the TV along with quick imagery can keep you from restful sleep and make it difficult to even go to sleep with some people. Shutting it off at least 1 - 2 hours before bed is best. Reading, visiting with friends and family and playing a board game are a few good alternatives.

Write a journal Keeping a to-do list helps you release your mind from trying to remember it all and the same with thoughts of the day and the future. You can also write down your sleep patterns to try to figure out what works and doesn't. Say you eat a big steak and watch TV and go to bed at 12 one night and the next night you eat a small vegetarian meal, read a book and go to bed at 9. Most likely you will see a difference in how long and well you sleep. You can see if you are still tired in the morning or rearing to go. This will help you make better decisions.

Take a light walk after dinner. Walking after a meal helps aid in the digestion. A light walk in nice weather especially is very relaxing and enjoyable. Make this a habit to become part of evening ritual and your body will thank you.

Don't sleep with the kids. Okay, so I write this with a 45 pound 3 year old in my bed, but seriously this is a great helpful hint. Kids need to learn to sleep on their own and form good habits and you don't need the wiggly little guys in your bed kicking you in the back with their knees. The only reason Hudson is in our bed now is because he outgrew his baby bed and his big brothers don't want to share their beds anymore and so it was just one night and tonight he's getting his own big boy bed.

Make your bedroom relaxing. This one is often a difficult one, especially for us mothers of young children. I can't tell you how often I have little boy shoes on the floor, books on the bed and piles of laundry on the bed. In fact right now we don't even have carpet as we pulled it up because of the gross factor and in an attempt to get rid of the allergens in the room. But, I do aspire to have a sanctuary of peace and calm in our bedroom. If you can keep it clean, keep work somewhere else, keep the bedroom for sleeping and well you know..., instead of multitasking, you'll be able to rest and relax.. Make it an environment you desire to be in.

Take care of your bed. Make the bed each day, buy comfortable and good quality sheets, blankets and a comforter. Cotton breaths and so consider that first. Remember to flip your mattress and if you have a soft pad addition remember dust mites and dirt accumulate and so every year they should be replaced. Your mattress should last about 8 years.

Consider your air. Many sleep specialist suggest a humidifier throughout the entire year and a fan to move the air. I also would like a purifier and have read the many benefits to just having cleaner air.

Calm your thoughts. If you are up worried and stressed you just can't sleep. I think Dr.Caroline Leaf (http://drleaf.com/) is wonderful at helping you to learn to renew your mind and take your thoughts captive. I also use imagery and literally say things out loud such as prayers, quotes or even just one word like peace or sleep. Recently I read about a woman that when she has a worry come to her mind she imagines a cloud coming by and her putting her worry on it and blowing it away as she literally blows it away. Try new things.

Try a tea and natural sleep aids. You can buy many sleepy time teas at the stores I get the majority of mine at Whole Foods, Spouts and believe it or not, Homegoods. You can also use lavender oil and camomile oils to help you relax. I use lavender on my temples and put some on my pillow.

Limit your alcohol intake Limit your alcohol intake to only one glass of wine or one beer as this can interfere with your sleep and dream cycles. You may think you are sleeping better but one reason people get hangovers is because of the lack of actual rest the body gets with alcohol and the work the body has to do to process it.

Think about it. If you make sleep and sleep quality a priority you will improve your whole life. If the average night's sleep is eight hours (ie one third of a day), one sleeps
for one third of one's life. If you live, say, 75 years, that's 25 years asleep,
or 9,125 days! God wants us to have our rest and renew our mind and body and so make this a priority in your life.
